M. A. MILAM K – 8 CENTER
GUITAR / KEYBOARD SYLLABUS
Guitar/Keyboard class is a group of students participating in individual and mass sound creation. In other words, the members of the class are active participants in creating and reproducing of “beautiful sounds”, using electronic pianos and acoustic guitars as our primary tools. Making music requires close attention to detail. Effort and behavior are crucial for meeting and exceeding performance standards. The class will also learn and discuss interdisciplinary concepts from Math, Science, Language Arts, Social Studies, World History, Art, etc. Music relates closely to all of these subjects!
Every student is required to maintain a Music folder. The folder will contain notes and worksheets that will be relevant for the entire school year. All items should remain in the music folder, which will be graded at the end of every grading period. Students will study from the folders for quizzes and tests. Students must always bring their music class folder with loose-leaf paper, a pencil, and all materials used in practice.
There is a $5 Elective Class Fee, payable to the school for the use of materials, instruments, repairs, etc. that is payable to our PTA. CASH ONLY!!
Grading is based on: Classroom Rules!
Performance – 80% 1.Pay attention in class!
Notebook – 10% 2.Show respect to everyone and everything!
Exams – 10% 3. Always do your best!
Discipline Plan: Positive Consequences:
1.Verbal warning. 1. The privilege of performing
2. Alternate assignment 2. Special field trips
3. Detention and/or conference 3. School-related awards
Attendance and tardiness policies are mandated by the District. All students should be present for school, and on time for class!
